In the autumn of 2021, the town of Cefalù joined the “Le vie dei tesori” itinerary.
This initiative recognized the historical and artistic significance of the seaside village, allowing foreign tourists and locals alike to discover often forgotten artistic and cultural treasures. In this regard, Cefalù showcased the remnants of the Hellenistic-Roman civilization still visible in its points of interest and the church of SS. Trinità al San Domenico. In this ancient building, visitors can admire the prehistoric stone extracted from the Rocca di Cefalù, the promontory believed to have given its name to the city, as it resembles the shape of a head (in Greek: “Kephaloidion”).
The journey along the Vie dei Tesori will lead you to discover Cefalù through art, nature, churches, medieval washhouses, noble palaces, and the prestigious Mandralisca Museum, where the “Portrait of an Unknown Sailor” is housed, known as the “Sicilian Mona Lisa” for its enigmatic character.
